Airport transfers
From Tullamarine Airport to home: four ways to travel, and when a private car is worth it
After a long flight, everyone wants to get home as quickly as possible. Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine has a few familiar options, and each suits a different kind of trip.
SkyBus
This express coach runs between the airport and Southern Cross Station, taking about 22 minutes on the freeway. It runs every day from around 4 am to 1 am, every 15 minutes, and you do not need to book ahead. A one-way adult fare is from $23.20, and children pay $4.
It suits people travelling alone with little luggage, whose home or meeting point is near Southern Cross Station.
Taxi
Every terminal has a taxi rank, and no booking is needed. For airport pick-ups, the fare includes the $4.78 airport access fee. A trip into the city centre starts from about $70. This fee does not apply on the way to the airport.
Uber and DiDi
At Terminals 1, 2 and 3, the rideshare pick-up area is outside Terminal 2. Terminal 4 has its own pick-up point on the ground level of the T4 car park. Indicative prices start from about $50 with Uber and $40 with DiDi, and may rise at busy times.
Train
There is currently no train line running directly to the airport. The Melbourne Airport Rail project has been mentioned with an expected date of 2029.
When to book a private car
- Families of four or more, or with lots of suitcases and prams.
- Travelling with older grandparents who would rather not wait or change transport.
- Your flight arrives very late at night or very early in the morning.
- You want to know exactly who is picking you up, where and at what time before you board.
TNT Global takes bookings for pick-ups and drop-offs at Melbourne Airport, arranging the pick-up time around your flight. If you book together with your flight ticket, both directions will match your flight times.
